The crystals are highly lustrous and show water-clear tips. No significant damage, except for an old rupture at the bottom.

I personally consider Schin gorge specimen as the most attractive phantom quartz crystals of the entire Alps, and this great miniature shows why.

Epidote & Byssolite - sold

Knappenwand, Untersulzbachtal, Salzburg, Austria

Size: 9.5 x 7.5  x 6.0 cm

Dominant epidote crystal protruding from byssolite covered amphibolite matrix. The epidote measures about 3.5 cm in length at a diameter of more than 1 cm. The crystal tip is somewhat untidy: one part shows a clean termination face, others form fractured rims.

In general, many Knappenwand specimen are repaired because the fragile crystals mostly did not survive tectonic activities inside their narrow pockets. Nonetheless, carefully repaired Knappenwand specimen always met with high acceptance among collectors as long as there is a honest disclosure of the repair measures. Regarding the specimen on hand, there is no such disclosure committed by the preowners and there is also no visible hint for a repair - but still, there could be something hidden below the byssolite at the base of the epidote crystal. Apart from this uncertainty, this auction is a good opportunity to get a rare matrix-combo specimen from Knappenwand.
